Well, you're in the right place.
Syndicate Pictures is an advertising and marketing company that specializes in effective ad and marketing campaigns for businesses, government agencies, and non-profits. We wanted the postcard to be a small sample of the level of service and ingenuity we can offer our customers.
These are the common steps we take for marketing projects for our clients and the ones we use for our own campaigns:
|
 |
- Identify Service/Product to Market - What are we offering?
- Identify Key Demographics - Who is interested in our offering?
- Identify Target Media - How can we reach our audience? TV, Radio, Web, Print?
- Develop Creative - How can we motivate our audience to "take action"?
- Implement - Strategically hit target media at scheduled times and track responses
|

We'll show you how we took those steps and applied them to this postcard mailing:
| (1) Identify Service/Product |
What are we offering? In this campaign, we offer advertising and marketing services. We wish to promote our advertising and marketing services to new market segments.
| (2) Identify Key Demographics |
Who is interested in our offering? At different times of the year, we target different markets. In this instance, we selected several companies that matched a profile we were interested in based on factors such as geographical area, company size, company type, specific people at those companies, and several other qualifiers. We know our target demographics well, and obtained mailing lists that specifically targeted these key potential customers.
| (3) Identify Target Media |
How can we reach our audience? TV, Radio, Web, Print? Based on our target demographic, we had several marketing options. The major focus of this particular campaign was a direct mail piece with web support and phone follow-up. For our direct mail piece, we decided on a postcard. Because of accompanying marketing techniques, a postcard promotion was the most cost-effective. One benefit of a postcard versus a standard mailer, was that a postcard did not have to "opened". The "content" of our message was immediately and plainly visible.
How can we motivate our audience to "take action"? Because we used a direct mail postcard as our target medium, we knew the challenges we would encounter. Every form of advertising has its pros and cons that need to be considered for each campaign. We asked ourselves what would differentiate our postcard from the other mail and keep it from being considered junk mail. In this particular campaign, we used humor and a cartoon. This allowed us to use bright, bold colors which are eye-catching. With direct mail, you have several levels of "attention" you need to achieve from the viewer for it to be effective. The bold colors and humorous image helped us obtain the first level.
Taking a closer look, the viewer realizes the postcard has their own name and company name in the artwork. This intrigued them to the second level. [To achieve this, we are utilizing new printing technology called variable data printing - click here for more information.] By this point, the reader had committed to read the entire card. Then they appreciated the entire joke of the card. Of course, by showing the recipient as the sly and shrewd fox who planned their marketing strategies well within the company, we paid the viewer a compliment. We made an emotional connection with the viewer and showed them they can be successful and do so by working with Syndicate Pictures.

More Psychology
In addition to the obvious compliment we provide to the viewer, we use another psychological technique. The dinosaur in the cartoon represents the hesitation to advertise or the apprehension to change the way one currently markets their product or service. The card playfully makes it clear that that way of thinking will ultimately lead to their company's failure and "extinction". The postcard addresses those fears, but also does it in a humorous way. The joke is that one is successful by working with us, and is not successful when they are held back by fear.
Strategically hit target media at scheduled times and track responses. Once we capture the viewer's attention, give them a compliment, and they've read the card, they are then motivated to contact us for a free consultation. Our toll-free number and website give them easy access to something free that can only help their business - it's easy to see why they would call. Because we are selling the exact type of service the recipient has just experienced and been entertained by, they know that we can do the same thing for their customer base as well.
| MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE - What You Didn't See
|
But we're not done yet! There is even more going on in the card that you may not have noticed. Part of our mailing list database indicated whether the recipient was male or female. (If we didn't know, it defaulted to male). If it's a woman, the fox will be a woman; the sex is adjusted accordingly to help the recipient better identify with the character.
The postcard is also a "market research" card. Both the fox and dinosaur have a thought in their "thought bubble." As each card is printed, the "thought" changes. The fox has 4 variants, and the dinosaur has 5 variants. In total, you can get 20 variant combinations. When people contact us after having received the postcard, we ask them what the characters were "thinking" on their card. We then keep a running tally of the phrase combinations that generate the greatest response. We can also track which phrase combinations elicit better responses from men or from women. This information will then be used in our next mailing when we will use the phrase combinations that elicited the greatest response. |

Some ad agencies specialize in specific media - some will specialize in direct mail, others in outdoor advertising, others TV, and so on. This can lead to mismatched branding and confusion to potential customers in the sales process leading to fewer sales and delays. We design overall campaigns and make sure all marketing in all media serves to drive sales consistently and more effectively.
| You may have the greatest product or service, but if you don't let others know about it and promote it in a way that compels the target audience to "take action", then your company will fail. We want to MOVE your customers to take action - whether it's to call, visit your website, or visit your store location. Once we've done a thorough analysis of your key demographics, our creative team will analyze your objectives and craft dynamic, high-impact solutions. Where do your customers live, where do they work, what motivates their purchasing habits - what's important to them? Psychology and sociological analyses of your key demographics helps us to appeal to your "future customers" and "motivate" them to take action. |

There is a lot of "technology-hype" out there. How do you know when to use "new technologies" and "new media" in your marketing campaigns? We watch evolving new media VERY closely. New technology, such as variable data targeting (for personalization, serialization, and market research) have already started to show higher ROI. Certain internet areas now have more concentrated demographic groups than ever before possible. Keyword marketing for web advertising is yielding unbelievable returns for some online businesses - many of whom have closed their retails shops to go online completely.
We believe in tried and true marketing media. At the same time, however, if new technology and new media emerge, we can make them available to our customers. For example, did you know that downloadable ring tones (the specialized ring sounds on people's cell phones) are a multi-million dollar business? It's a new medium and a new audience and they have money to spend. Many other agencies do not understand these new technologies, and therefore do not offer them to their customers. We have technology experts as part of our Syndicate Pictures' team that help you take advantage of these emerging advertising opportunities.
