CLIENT: LaxCast, a source of lacrosse news and statistics.
CHALLENGE: A father of three young lacrosse players saw an untapped market for lacrosse news and statistics, and this entrepreneur wanted to build an online community dedicated to lacrosse enthusiasts through the use of text, audio, and video podcasts.
SOLUTION: Create a brand for LaxCast, build its website, and produce audio and video podcast productions.
STRATEGY: We determined the best way to begin this journey was to develop the branding and site. So, Syndicate Pictures created logo graphics and audio branding for a podcast series featuring the latest news in the lacrosse world. We made the podcasts available through RSS feeds and iTunes. As the website grew in popularity, high school rankings were incorporated and video podcasts were introduced, and the project was re-branded as LaxPower. Corporate sponsors advertised on the network and user-content was introduced.
RESULTS: LaxCast grew into a model that was duplicated for other sports via SportsPower, a larger network supported by advertising and sponsorships. Business Week featured LaxCast as one of Top 10 Sports Podcasts on the web. The lacrosse dad, who had envisioned selling his business all along, got his wish only two years after its launch. Several networks waged a bidding war for SportsPower, and eventually the company was acquired by "The Active Network" based in La Jolla, CA.
